Answers to Common E-Cig Questions

Electronic cigarettes are on the consistent rise, so much that we received a lot of questions about electronic cigarettes. We chose the most commonly asked questions and answered them to the best of our abilities.

 

Question 1: What is the actual difference between vaping and smoking? 

This is probably the most asked question because many people believe vaping and smoking are one and the same thing. Vaping produces ‘smoke’ so it’s the same as smoking. Wrong. Smoking involves igniting tobacco or similar dried plant material and inhaling the smoke that is produced. Vaping involves using a battery operated device to heat up a flavored liquid which gets into turned into mist for the user to inhale. Vaping mimics that experience of smoking, but without the smell of smoke and the residue of tar and ash.

 

Question 2: What am I inhaling when I vape

The mist that you inhale from an electronic cigarette comes from the cartridge and within that cartridge is electronic juice, also known as e-juice or e-liquid. Although the ingredients can vary from company to company, e-juice is usually made of vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, flavoring, and nicotine.

 

Question 3: Can I get addicted to vaping? 

Opinions vary on this one. Nicotine is the only addictive agent, which is why smokers keep coming back to cigarettes despite the dangerous health claims. But unlike analog cigarettes, you can control the amount of nicotine that you consume. E-juice can be sold with varying levels of nicotine strength, from zero milligrams to twenty-four milligrams per milliliter. If you’re vaping a zero-nicotine electronic cigarette, then chances are you will not get addicted. We can’t say the same if you decided to vape an electronic cigarette with twenty-four milligrams.

 

Question 4: Is vaping safer than cigarettes? 

Researchers and scientists are still studying the long-term effects vaping on the human body, so we cannot answer that question with confidence. However, in a study that was partially funded by the United States National Institutes of Health, results revealed that the vapor produced by e-cigs is not harmful to users or bystanders and that electronic cigarettes have a much smaller level of risk than traditional cigarettes. Give the results of that study, we can say that vaping can be safer than cigarettes, but definitive results won’t be in until some time after 2018 after the Food and Drug Administration has completed its study.

 

Question 5: The city I live in has laws on banning smoking, but makes no mention of vaping. Does this mean I can vape where I cannot smoke? 

This can be tricky, and certainly difficult to answer. Some cities have recently added vaping as another act of smoking, so it is also banned. But you don’t hear about it in the news or in the newspaper or even in social media. We suggest that you check your city’s rules and regulations on vaping. And if there is none, it doesn’t mean you are free to vape. You should ask first if you plan to vape at the office, at a restaurant, or at any indoors public space.

 

Question 6: Should I vape? 

If you’re a smoker looking to quit, we recommend you give electronic cigarettes a try. While electronic cigarettes are not FDA approved as a smoking cessation products, many smokers and former smokers have claimed that vaping electronic cigarettes helped them ditch the tobacco for good. That’s as far as we’ll answer if you should vape or not. Other that, Do what you will for it’s your life to live.
